Joe won a monster drawing contest in first grade. He's lived in the shadow of that early success for two decades. His work has appeared in Fourteen Hills, More Bridges: The 2007 SFWC Anthology, Sarah Lawrence Review, Switchback, and elsewhere. “The Beach as Office,” forthcoming from Bay Nature magazine in June, won Best Writing Award at the 2007 San Francisco Writers Conference. Joe also performs hip hop music as the Backwards Ninja (aka the Gentrified ODB), one half of Microphone Hippie.
